Why Koreans Take Personal Color So Seriously — Vocabulary & Culture from Our Color Lab Vlog (Ep.2)
A skin scan, a draping test, and ten years of wearing the wrong colors.
This week, 팅쌤 and her husband go get professionally diagnosed for their 퍼스널 컬러 (personal color) — a color analysis that's become one of Korea's biggest beauty trends. It's not just something celebrities do anymore: color labs like the one in this episode use skin-tone scanners and hands-on draping tests to find the palette that makes a person's face look its best, and some foreign tourists now build entire trips around getting diagnosed while they're in Seoul.
A machine scans 팅쌤's skin tone, colorful fabrics are draped under her chin one by one, and the results finally arrive: she's an autumn warm tone — and her husband turns out to be a complete opposite, a winter cool tone. Along the way, she unpacks why Koreans treat knowing your 웜톤 or 쿨톤 as practically a second MBTI.
The diagnosis doesn't stop at her face, either — a body type analysis reveals she's been dressing wrong for ten years. Find out what tone you'd be, too.
