= should have ___, but didn't
Verb stem → -았/었어야 했는데 — 가다 → 갔어야 했는데
Structure → [obligation not met] + -았/었어야 했는데 + [what happened] — 병원에 갔어야 했는데 못 갔어요

💡 -(으)ㄹ 걸 그랬다 (Day 117) = a light, everyday regret. -았/었어야 했는데 = a heavier regret about a real responsibility you missed.
